The Forest Department has challaned three plot owners for illegally felling trees. 7 trees were felled from three plots of C Block of South City-1 in Gurugram 3 years ago. A petition in this case was filed in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the year 2024. After the order of investigation in the case, Google Images was used, which has revealed the felling of 7 trees.

On Friday, while hearing a case of tree felling, NGT has issued a notice against the owners of 3 plots. After seeing the joint report, NGT has given this decision in this matter. At the same time, the next hearing in this case will be on March 4. On August 23 last year, residents of South City-1 filed a petition in the NGT, alleging that trees were cut illegally in plot numbers C-76, C-100, C-101 of South City-1.

No response received
The Forest Department sought a response in the case of cutting of trees under the Right to Information, but no clear answer was received. After this, the matter was heard on September 4. The NGT constituted a joint committee headed by the Member Secretary of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, which includes officials of the Forest Department and a representative of the District Magistrate. Seeing the joint investigation report in this case, the Forest Department has imposed a fine against three house owners.

The investigation report states that Google Image of the year 2021 found that 7 trees were planted on these three plots, which are not in the plot at present. The Forest Department has challaned Gaurav Sharma, Shyam Gupta and Karna Mehra in the case of illegal cutting of trees.
