Hearing on Tirupati Laddu dispute in Supreme Court today

The Supreme Court will hear on Monday several PILs seeking intervention in the matter of adulteration of animal fat in ghee used in making Tirupati temple laddus. According to the cause list published on the website of the apex court, a bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Vishwanathan will hear the case on September 30.

Demand for CBI inquiry raised
The petition filed by advocate Satyam Singh has sought a judicial inquiry by forming a committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge or ordering a CBI inquiry into the criminal conspiracy and mismanagement of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust, which runs the temple.

What has the petitioner said?
The petition states that the investigation has revealed that animal fat, fish oil and other non-vegetarian things were used in the Laddu Prasadam at Tirumala.
This act is not only a gross violation of Hindu religious customs, but it has also deeply hurt the sentiments of countless devotees. The petition states that adulteration of Prasadam at Tirumala Tirupati Balaji Temple with animal fat is a serious violation of Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already formed an SIT to investigate the matter.
On the other hand, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy again questioned the claims of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in which he had said that adulterated ghee was used to make Tirupati Laddu when the YSRCP was in power. On Sunday, the YSRCP chief said that the statement of the TTD executive officer appointed by Chandrababu Naidu's government itself refutes the CM's claims.

Jagan Mohan asked the Chief Minister in a post on Instagram, "What does this mean? Is this evidence not enough? Satyameva Jayate.''

Jagan Mohan cited TTD EO Rao's statement of July 23. Rao had said that TTD had found vegetable oil mixed in ghee and two tankers were returned. Let us tell you that on September 18, CM Naidu alleged that animal fat was used instead of ghee in making laddus.

Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Sunday offered prayers at the Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala here. The CJI prayed in the sanctum sanctorum along with his family members. After the darshan of Lord Venkateswara, the CJI and his family members took Vedic blessings from the temple priests at Ranganayakula Mandapam. During this, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Executive Officer J Shyamala Rao presented a picture of Sri Venkateswara Swamy and Tirtha Prasadam to the CJI.
