Bangladesh's Mohammad Yunus wants to meet PM Modi
The new interim government of Bangladesh wants to hold talks with India. For this, an official message has also been sent to New Delhi from Dhaka. Bangladesh interim government chief Mohammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may meet at the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly). Bangladesh has requested India for a meeting of Mohammad Yunus with PM Modi in New York.
India has not yet responded to this request of the neighboring country. Mohammad Yunus said that talks with India are necessary to strengthen the organization of SAARC countries. Mohammad Yunus has also expressed his desire to seek help from PM Modi on the Rohingya refugee issue in Bangladesh. Although the Indian government has not yet responded to this, PM Modi will go to New York to attend the UNGA program to be held at the end of September. Where the two leaders are expected to meet.
According to Hindustan Times, the Indian side has not yet decided on Bangladesh's appeal and Modi's agenda for bilateral meetings in New York is still being decided. Citing sources, the newspaper wrote that a meeting between Modi and Yunus seems unlikely after Yunus' comments in an interview with an Indian media outlet earlier this week.
Hammad Yunus had criticised Sheikh Hasina for commenting on Bangladesh while in India in an interview with PTI. He also said that India should come out of the 'narrative' that every political party other than the Awami League is 'Islamist'.
Yunus said, "If India keeps Hasina here, the condition will be that she will have to keep her mouth shut. Nobody likes that she is speaking and giving instructions while sitting in India. This is not good for us or India." Bangladesh said in a very strict manner that Sheikh Hasina should remain silent in India because she has been given shelter there and she is campaigning from there.
There has been no comment from India on Yunus's remarks so far, but experts believe that these remarks are not good for the relations between the two countries.
