Janmashtami celebrations in Mathura and Vrindavan
The splendor of Janmashtami is worth seeing in Mathura and Vrindavan where Lord Krishna spent his life. The temples here are specially decorated and the event of the birth of the Lord is staged at midnight.
Dahi-Handi celebrations are also very popular during this festival, especially in North India. Groups of youngsters participate in a handi-breaking competition called Govinda Pathak. This is reminiscent of Lord Krishna's childhood pranks.
