Heavy Rain in Haryana: Embankments of Som and Nakti rivers broke in Yamunanagar, water entered 15 villages; farmer died
The continuous rain in Himachal Pradesh has become a disaster for the people of Haryana (Flood in Haryana). A record of 24 thousand cusecs of water was recorded in the Som river. At the same time, 65 thousand cusecs of water is flowing in the Yamuna river. Due to the water filling in the Nakti river, the villagers of the nearby area are facing a lot of trouble.
Due to rain in the mountains and cloudburst in Sirmaur, Himachal, the Nakti and Som rivers broke. For the first time, due to 24 thousand cusecs of water in the Som river, water entered more than 15 villages. Due to the overflowing of the Nakti river, the streets of Sadhaura were filled with water up to five feet.
34-year-old farmer dies due to drowning
34-year-old farmer Satpal, who went to the fields in Chintpur, drowned. The NDRF team has recovered the body. Goods have been damaged due to water filling in the houses. Crops have been destroyed. Five feet of water has accumulated in Sadhaura town. The police also conducted a rescue operation. People are angry due to not getting help from the administration.
Water filled in thousands of acres of crops
The surrounding villages have been affected the most due to the breaking of the embankment of the Som river. Relief work has been started in the villages. 65 thousand water flow has been recorded in the Yamuna river.
The Som river had 24 thousand cusecs of water. This is the highest water so far. The district received 21 mm of rain. 80 mm of rain was recorded in block Sadhaura. Flood water has accumulated in thousands of acres of crops.
Villagers said - no work has been done on the embankments
The affected villagers say that where there is a need to build embankments, the irrigation department officials do not build embankments there. Where there is no need, embankments have been built. This is causing problems.
Flood protection works have also not been completed by the irrigation department yet. Farmers of many villages including Malikpur Bangar, Rukali, Basatiyawala have been demanding the removal of the illegal embankment built on the Som river for a long time.
