RBI update on 2000 rupee note
RBI said on Monday that 97.96 percent of the two thousand rupees notes that were out of circulation have returned to the banking system. Now only notes worth Rs 7,261 crore are left in circulation or with the people. RBI had announced the withdrawal of two thousand rupees notes from circulation on 19 May 2023.
At that time two thousand rupees notes worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore were in circulation. RBI had given the facility to deposit or exchange these notes in the branches of all banks till October 7, 2023. At present, people can deposit two thousand rupees notes in their bank accounts through all 19 regional offices of RBI.
The facility to deposit and/or exchange Rs 2000 notes was available in all bank branches of the country till October 7, 2023. Common people are sending Rs 2000 bank notes from any post office in the country through Indian Post to any RBI issue office to deposit them in their bank accounts.
