In Haryana, the BJP returned to power for the third consecutive time in the year 2024. But, the party had to face defeat in 42 out of 90 seats. After this, the party has now taken steps to strengthen its hold on these seats as well. The party has appointed in-charges on these 42 seats. This decision has been taken in the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party.

The BJP had scored a hat-trick of victory in the 2024 assembly elections in Haryana. Even after this, the party is in alert mode. The BJP is now engaged in strengthening its hold in Haryana. Due to this, on Tuesday, the party appointed party MLAs, including several ministers, as in-charges of those 42 assembly seats where its candidates lost in the 2024 state elections. This decision was taken in the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party.

The BJP returned to power for the third consecutive time in Haryana in 2024 by winning 48 out of a total of 90 seats. Congress got 37, INLD two and independents got three seats. However, now BJP has appointed in-charges for these 42 lost seats.

In-charges appointed

Now Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli has appointed in-charges for 42 seats, which are represented by opposition MLAs in the current House. These seats include Ambala City, Baroda, Julana, Dabwali, Sirsa, Adampur, Hisar, Garhi Sampla Kiloi, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Nuh and Panchkula.

Who all have been appointed as in-charges

The in-charge ministers include Vipul Goyal, Gaurav Gautam, Rao Narbir Singh, Ranbir Gangwa, Mahipal Dhanda, Krishna Kumar Bedi, Aarti Singh Rao and Shruti Chaudhary. However, the name of senior minister Anil Vij is missing from the list. Party sources said that among other things, the MLAs will work at the grassroots level to strengthen the party, identify new development needs and resolve public grievances.

Why has he been appointed?

The decision was taken at a crucial meeting of the BJP Legislature Party chaired by Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini at his residence on Tuesday. The party is focused on strengthening its organisational structure in the assembly constituencies where the party had lost in the 2024 elections. The meeting also focused on reviewing the ongoing development works and accelerating the pace of progress in various constituencies. After the two-hour-long meeting, BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli said the party has appointed one MLA in each assembly constituency to monitor development works.

Sitting MLAs, including ministers, will be allotted an additional constituency with the responsibility to work at the grassroots level, establish a dialogue with party workers there and resolve any problems, a BJP leader said.

Opposition takes aim
However, critics of the party are skeptical of the plan and point out that a similar experiment was done in 2014 when the party first came to power in the state, winning 47 seats with 33.2% vote share. Haryana Congress president Uday Bhan said, such previous experiments of the BJP did not yield any result in Haryana. In the 2019 elections, the BJP missed the majority by winning 40 seats with 36.49% vote share, while the Congress won 31 seats with 28.08% vote share.
