Prisoner serving 20 years sentence under POCSO Act absconded, was undergoing treatment in hospital due to diarrhea; 5 suspended

A prisoner serving 20 years sentence under POCSO Act in Kurukshetra has absconded. He was admitted to LNJP hospital on July 10 for the treatment of diarrhea. Due to negligence, the prisoner managed to escape, after which Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa has suspended five policemen.

On Sunday night at around 1 o'clock, a prisoner serving 20 years sentence under POCSO Act, who was undergoing treatment at LNJP Hospital, escaped by dodging the police personnel. Happy, a resident of Geeta Colony, Shahabad, was admitted in the prisoner ward of LNJP Hospital since July 10 due to diarrhea.

When the police searched the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital, he was seen escaping from the hospital at around 1 o'clock in the night. A case is also registered against the prisoner under the Arms Act under Shahabad Police Station.

Five policemen suspended

Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector Anand Bakshi, in-charge of the prisoner ward, and four SPOs posted on duty. The Superintendent of Police has formed three teams under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Ashok Kumar to arrest the prisoner.

A case was registered against 23-year-old Happy, a resident of Geeta Colony, Shahabad, on 16 September 2020 at Shahabad police station for luring and kidnapping a minor and under the POCSO Act. He is serving a 20-year sentence in the district jail under the POCSO Act.
