Interest waived for over 600,000 farmers.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a one-time settlement scheme for the outstanding overdue loans of farmers associated with Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS). This scheme will remain in effect until March 31, 2026. In addition, the government has released ₹116 crore in compensation to 53,821 farmers for crop damage caused by heavy rains.
Speaking at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday in the presence of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that under the overdue loan settlement scheme, farmers who have taken loans from PACS will have their entire outstanding interest waived if they deposit the principal amount of their loan into the society's accounts. Under this scheme, interest amounting to ₹2,266 crore will be waived for 6,81,182 farmers and poor laborers in the state.
Chief Minister Saini said that this scheme is for all indebted farmers who have taken crop loans, tenant loans, or loans for business purposes, which have become overdue as of September 30, 2024. They can avail the benefits of this scheme. In addition, the families of 2.25 lakh deceased farmers can also benefit from this scheme. If their heirs deposit the principal amount, they will also receive the benefit of interest waiver. This amount is approximately ₹900 crore.
Compensation for crop damage also announced
Chief Minister Saini also released a total compensation amount of ₹116.15 crore to 53,821 farmers for crop damage caused by heavy rains in August-September. Addressing a press conference, he said that the compensation amount released today includes ₹35.29 crore for millet crops, ₹27.43 crore for cotton, ₹22.91 crore for paddy, and ₹14.10 crore for guar.
He said that due to heavy rains in August-September last year, a flood-like situation had arisen in several districts of Haryana. He himself visited the flood-affected areas to assess the situation, and an e-compensation portal was opened until September 15th to compensate farmers for the losses caused by the floods. Farmers were urged to register information about crop damage on the portal.
Maximum Damage in Three Districts
Nayab Singh Saini said that three districts in the state suffered the most damage. Farmers in Charkhi Dadri received the highest amount of Rs. 23.55 crore. Hisar district received Rs. 17.82 crore and Bhiwani received Rs. 12.15 crore. Earlier, the government had also released Rs. 4.72 crore to compensate for the loss of livestock, damage to houses, and other essential items due to the floods.
The Chief Minister said that for the losses incurred by crops during the Kharif season of 2025 due to natural calamities, 5,29,199 farmers registered 31 lakh acres of land on the compensation portal. After verification, 53,821 farmers were found to have suffered damage to 1,20,380 acres of agricultural land.
Assistance to Bajra Farmers under Price Difference Compensation Scheme
Chief Minister Saini said that to ensure a fair price for the bajra crop, bajra was included in the Price Difference Compensation Scheme during the Kharif season of 2021. Keeping the interests of the farmers in mind, the procurement of bajra for the Kharif season 2025-26 was started on September 23rd.
The Chief Minister said that a total of 6.23 lakh metric tons of bajra was procured this season. So far, farmers have been given Rs. 927 crore as bajra price difference compensation. Including today's amount, the total has reached Rs. 1,285.62 crore.
