India's initiative for peace in Russia-Ukraine
Countries all over the world are looking to India with hope for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war. Next week, National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, head to Russia. He hopes to help spark a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Palestine is also reaching out to India for peace in Gaza. Adnan Abu al-Haija, Palestine’s Ambassador to India, mentioned that they always seek a friend like India for mediation. He believes that India is a peaceful country. So, they are making a request: “We urge India to help us as a mediator."
He added that India has solid ties with both Israel and Palestine. They want India to hold an international conference aimed at a ceasefire agreement. Also, they wish for a future state based on the borders from 1967.
Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened up about how countries like China, India, and Brazil can join in as mediators during these peace talks. Following his comments, Italy's Prime Minister Georgia Meloni echoed similar sentiments. She also said that India's involvement could be key to stopping the fighting.
In Gaza, other nations like the US, Qatar, & Egypt already play roles as mediators for a ceasefire. However, despite these attempts, they haven't been able to secure an agreement yet. Now that the situation in Russia-Ukraine is unfolding, there’s hope that India might also become involved in mediating the Palestine-Israel issue.
So now we hear that Ajit Doval will travel to Russia next week! It’s reported he will meet with counterparts from BRICS nations too. These meetings might also include talks on resolving the ongoing dispute between Russia and Ukraine. Let's hope for some positive outcomes!
