India should get permanent membership of UNSC
The non-permanent members of the UN Security Council are elected by the UNGA for a two-year term. A day earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron voiced support for India's inclusion as a permanent member of the UNSC.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has backed India for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), citing the country's significant economic growth and leadership in the Global South. The Bhutanese Prime Minister's remarks came while addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.
Tshering said Bhutan has been a vocal advocate for reform in the UNSC. He said the United Nations must evolve to meet the realities of today's world. He said we need a council that reflects the current geopolitical and economic landscape.
Tshering said I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our closest friend and neighbour India. They have been with us since the beginning of our development journey and have been steadfast in their support and friendship. It is noteworthy that India has long been seeking a permanent seat in the Security Council to better represent the interests of developing countries.

Macron had said that as long as we have a Security Council that is mutually blocked, I would say, according to the respective interests of each, it will be difficult to move forward. Is there a better system, I don't think so. The French President also stressed the need for reform within the United Nations, stressing that making the organization more representative is an important step towards greater effectiveness. Germany, Japan, India and Brazil should be permanent members.
