Cold in North India including Delhi-NCR
Winter has knocked. Blankets and quilts that were kept in boxes for many months have come out. The mountains have started turning white with snow and the plains have started getting chilly with the biting cold wind. All this has happened in the last two-three days. Especially since Sunday when the first snow fell in Himachal and it rained in Delhi-NCR. On Wednesday, the winter broke all records when Delhi experienced the coldest morning of the season. According to the Safdarjung Observatory, the temperature in Delhi on Wednesday morning was 4.9 degrees Celsius.
Cold has started showing its effect in the areas of North India including Delhi-NCR. After starting with a shivering morning, the bright sunshine in the afternoon gives partial relief, but by evening it also makes one feel chilly. This is happening due to the sudden drop in temperature. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the mercury may fall further in the coming one or two days and the cold may increase.
Why did the cold increase suddenly?
Most people believe that when the temperature drops, we feel cold. Actually, it is related to the temperature, but apart from this, it also depends on the wind, sunlight, humidity and weather conditions. If we look at the temperature, if the maximum temperature is 25 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 15 degrees Celsius, then mild cold can be felt, but when the maximum temperature becomes 20 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 5 degrees Celsius, then the cold is felt more. This is the reason for the sudden increase in cold in Delhi NCR as well.
Why was 11 December colder?
On 11 December, a sudden drop in temperature was felt. The maximum temperature remained average, but the minimum temperature directly reached 4.9 degrees Celsius from 09 degrees Celsius. Talking about Ayan Nagar area of Delhi, this temperature was 3.8 degrees Celsius, which was almost 6 degrees Celsius less than the day before. The second coldest area of Delhi was Lodhi Road where the temperature fell by 5 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day. The same was the case with Najafgarh and Narela.
Why does it feel less cold in the afternoon and more cold at night?
The heat and cold felt during the day and night are directly related to the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures. Actually, the maximum temperature is that which is the highest at any one time. Whereas the minimum temperature is that which is the lowest between night and morning. This is the difference between the cold of day and morning and evening. Actually, the experience of cold reduces due to the heat of the sun during the day, there is moisture in the air due to the heat of the atmosphere which prevents it from increasing the cold, whereas this does not happen at night. That is why the cold is more bothersome at night than during the day.
Cold increased from Kashmir to Rajasthan
Cold wave has knocked in Rajasthan along with cold. Here the lowest temperature was recorded in Sikar, where the temperature was 1.5 degrees Celsius. Talking about the maximum temperature, the temperature in Barmer was 25.0 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, the minimum temperature in Kashmir was recorded at minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Qazikund was minus 4.4 degrees Celsius.
